Totem Poles – When you come to Ketchikan, you are visiting the land of the Haida, Tlingit, and Tsimshian peoples. Alaska Native art is distinctive and worth seeing. Ketchikan is a community with the world’s largest collection of totem poles. There are a number of famous poles downtown. If you want to visit the historic villages, you can go south to see Saxman or head north to visit Totem Bight.
Misty Fjords National Monument – The Misty Fjords is a National Monument and wilderness area administered by the US Forest Service. The Fjords were formed by glacial activity some 60 million years ago. As the glaciers moved, they cut vast fjords through the short mountain range stretching through Southeast Alaska. This activity helped create the archipelago that defines Southeast’s beautiful topography. The Alexander Archipelago stretches 300 miles from Juneau to the Queen Charlotte Islands and contains approximately 1,100 islands.
